Bangladesh hopes that beating the hosts in their first ODI match will help them in the forthcoming T20I series. After 18 straight losses in ODI cricket, Bangladesh was able to break the jinx in New Zealand. However, they have an appalling record in T20I cricket, having lost all nine of their matches played in this region of the world so far.
“This is the first T20 match that we have won. Prior to the opening match in Napier, Bangladesh’s head coach Chandika Hathurusingha addressed reporters, saying, “This was the same as one-day cricket but then we managed to win the last game.”
“Certainly it will help( ODI win over New Zealand at Napier) mentally when you have a good win always you feel good and because you have done something you want to repeat again no matter what the format is and that will give us confidence leading into the T20Is,” he added.
Bangladesh, who has won all three of their Twenty20 International Series (T20I) matches in 2023—against England, Ireland, and Afghanistan—will also be hoping to continue their winning run in the shortest format. For the tourists, winning a T20I series in New Zealand will be the cherry on top as they get ready for the next T20 World Cup.
Prior to the main tournament, which comprises these three matches versus New Zealand, Bangladesh will play eleven Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). They will also host Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. In addition, the players will participate in the Bangladesh Premier League. “Conditions based on plans dictate. We are working to finalize our preparations in preparation for the T20 World Cup, which we want to play a lot of our plans concurrently with,” Hathurusingha stated.
“We are trying to find our combination and give the players kind of roles that they will play during the World Cup and so that’s the plan,” Hathurusingha said, adding that they are not losing sleep over the lack of games leading up to the competition. “We got 11 games now and then the BPL as well,” she continued.
“We have 11 matches remaining until the World Cup, as I had already stated. That’s all we have, so whether it’s perfect or not, we must figure out our duties and plans within that time frame,” he continued.
Hathurusingha saved the best for Soumya Sarkar, who amassed three wickets in the third game and struck a century in the second. “Very happy with the way he (Soumya) performed and I always knew that he is capable of playing,” stated the coach. We all say that class is forever, and he has demonstrated before when I was here. Form has an impact on various aspects, chiefly your mental processes. Every participant maximizes their potential to the extent that they are clear, understand the role, and feel at ease in the setting. There is no reason why he can’t do well in the T20 World Cup; he is in a good frame of mind.
“For him, the second ODI was a “make or break” situation. What we did was to give him confidence and trust, something that the entire squad did. I believe that’s where he derived his strength,” he said.
